China -a powerful and prosperous country entering into the new century
China, a giant lion once sunk in sound sleep in the east, has made great achievements that attract world attention over the past two decades since its reform and opening up drive.
Long-lasting, splendid and ancient Civilization With a civilization of more than 5,000 years, China has long been known as one of the great four ancient civilizations including the ancient Egypt, India, and Babylon. Today's China is noticeably better-off and stronger. China has many world natural cultural heritage sites. And by December of 2000, the UNESCO had designated 27sites in China as the world heritage. The Chinese language, one of the six working languages of the United Nations, is the most ancient and age-old language on the earth, which is widely used by over one-fifth of the world's population. The Chinese square character, with a history of 5,000-6,000 years, is the only ideograph left over in the world.
Rich and splendid history and culture China has rich resources of classical literature. The Tang poetry, Song ci, Yuan verses, and such novels as A Pilgrimage to the West, the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Outlaws of the Marsh (Water Margin), and Dream of the Red Mansions during the Ming and Qing dynasties, have spread far and wide in many countries, bringing about great impacts. China also has a unique catering culture, which helped produce eight cuisines including Sichuan, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, Fujian, Zhejiang, Anhui and Hunan dishes, based on different geographical locations and cultural backgrounds. The eight cuisines, of long standing and being well established, have spread their reputation far and wide.
The Splendid Nature and Humanities China, with Yellow River as a birthplace of human civilization and with Yangtze River containing thousands of smaller ones, bears not only innumerable historic landmarks but also uncountable phenomena both on the earth and in the heaven. China has a large number of great natural places. You can enjoy the clear sky and green water in Han'nan, ride on horseback freely and quickly in Mongolia, climb up Mount Qomolangma, view the sunrise on the top of Taishan Mountain, you can also be intoxicated in the supernatural Wushan Mountain.
